We are ISCC PLUS title holders

Have you heard of ISCC certification, but you are not sure why it’s such a big deal and such a privilege? Read our article to find out all about it!

As you may have already read in our magazine, our factory in Rácalmás was awarded the prestigious ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) in August 2023. The international sustainability certification is designed to help the automotive supply chain to account for the amount of renewable and recycled content in a product. As the certification is only valid for one year, it needs to be reviewed every year, followed by a more detailed audit every 3 years.

“We are pleased to report that our factory in Rácalmás has successfully passed the recertification audit. Our plant fully met all requirements during the July audit. This is all the more important because ISCC certification, that is, the sustainability index, is now a prerequisite for cooperation with many global brands. This is the case for Porsche, whose electric sports car Taycan – also thanks to the certification – was fitted with Hankook iON evo tires made from 45 percent sustainable raw materials as OE tire,” points out Viktor Jakab, Deputy Team Manager, EU OE Quality Team.

He added that more and more manufacturers are insisting on sustainable innovations. ISCC certification was also an unavoidable requirement for BMW. Our cooperation has been so successful that we will soon be able to supply the front-mounted tires for the new model developed at BMW’s Debrecen plant.

It is not for the first time that Hankook has been recognised for its sustainability efforts. The company’s factory in Geumsan, Korea, made history in 2021 when it became the first tire manufacturer in the world to achieve ISCC PLUS certification, pioneering responsible and sustainable tire manufacturing. The certification, which we have now also earned at Hankook’s plant in Rácalmás, confirms that our company is on the right track towards a greener future.
