As you have already been informed in our previous announcement, the time has come to re-elect the members of the Works Council and the Safety and Health Committee. The mandate of the current members will expire in January 2023, and as the establishment of both bodies is a legal obligation for the employer, we will soon have to vote again on who should be involved in the most important issues affecting Hankook employees.
The Works Council must have 13 members, while the Health and Safety Committee must have 4 members. The two elections will be held at the same time, according to the same rules.
Even you can be a member of any of these bodies, but you must meet the legal criteria. Anyone who has been a Hankook employee for at least six months can start collecting signatures to become a member of the Works Council, while to become a Safety Representative, you must not be employed to perform as main activity safety and health tasks on behalf of the employer. The list of colleagues who are eligible to stand for election on the basis of their time spent in at the company has recently been published. The next step is more complex, as you need to get the support of at least 50 colleagues to be shortlisted. If you want to contest, you have until mid-December to collect signatures.
Any number of colleagues who meet the above conditions and have 50 recommendations can stand for election, but you can only vote for a maximum of 13 and 4 people respectively. If less than 50% of colleagues eligible to vote turn up for the first round, scheduled for mid-January, or if 13 or 4 candidates fail to obtain 30% of the votes, the elections will have to be repeated and the next election can be held 30 days later. If the rerun election is invalid, another works council election can be held at the earliest after one year; and if 30% of the votes are not obtained by the candidates, the election must be repeated until the number of candidates is sufficient to form the two bodies.
So participation is important and we encourage all colleagues to get involved in the election process in some way, or the other. If you want to voice your opinion on important issues that affect workers, you can do so as a candidate, and if you want to decide who should be the voice of workers’ interests before management, you can do so as a voter. We are counting on you!
