Easter preparations

with the little ones

Easter is basically a religious holiday, but for children it’s more about waiting for the Easter bunny and looking for chocolate eggs. It’s worth getting even the smallest ones involved in the preparations, so we’ve brought you some lovely Easter decoration ideas that we hope you’ll enjoy making with your kids!

Bunny Pencil Holder

To make these cute bunnies, you will need empty cans, sandpaper, grey acrylic paint, white and pink decorative rubber, decorative eyes, scissors, felt-tip pens and a little glue (all the materials are easily available in hobby shops). The first step is to sand the sharp parts on the top of the can to prevent accidents later! Clean the cans thoroughly, then paint them grey. While they’re drying, you can cut out the bunnies’ ears, paws, noses and teeth. Finally glue all the pieces onto the cans as shown in the picture and you’re done.

Door decorations

Cut the outer edge of a paper plate about 3-5 cm thick. Cut out egg shapes from colored sheets of paper, or better still, use white drawing paper, which the children can decorate individually as they like. Glue the eggs onto the paper wreath with a little overlap, and then attach a pretty ribbon to hang on the door.

Egg decorating with ear cleaning sticks

Even 2-3 year olds can love this simple decoration method. Involve them in the egg painting process and select together with them the basic color of the eggs. Then give your little ones an ear cleaning stick, put out the colored paints and let them freely dab the painted eggs. You will have a unique creation.

Easter chick fun

A few wooden clothespins, colored paper/decorative rubber, felt-tip pens and glue are all you need to make these fun eggs. Cut out the egg shapes from the rubber sheets, and then cut them in half at the widest part in a zigzag shape. To make the chick, you will need an oval piece of yellow rubber to draw eyes and a beak on, and then glue the egg shapes and the chick to the shorter stem of the tweezers as shown in the picture.

For Adults

With the usual Easter celebrations, decorating your home is an integral part of the preparations, and luckily there are plenty of simple but great ideas to create a gorgeous festive atmosphere in your home in no time.

Door decoration

The materials for this eye-catching door ornament are also available from decor and florist shops. Choose a straw or moss wreath base of any size, select plastic or Styrofoam eggs of different sizes and colors (the latter are usually white, so you can paint them yourself), artificial flowers (the one in the picture is vibrating) and glue the eggs and flowers to the base. Add a festive ribbon and you’ve got your door’s new jewel!

Bunny Socks

To make this charming bunny, take a sock and fill it about ¾ full with rice! Align it, shape the body and the head proportionally by hand, then tie it through the neck and the top of the head with thread, tightly! Cut the unstuffed part of the sock in half lengthways and shape them into pointed bunny ears! Then all that is left to do, is to draw the eyes and the nose (you can also embroider them if you’re smart), or you can give the sock bunny a pretty little bow for its neck.

Easter muffin

Here’s a cute treat that the kids will love!

Pasta ingredients:

  • 120 g room temperature butter
  • 175 g sugar
  • 200 g flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 50 ml milk
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tbs. Dutch cocoa
  • pinch of salt

Meringues:

  • 3 egg-whites
  • sugar (twice the amount of egg-white)
  • pinch of salt
  • vanilla aroma

Cream:

  • 100 g soft butter
  • 225 g sifted powdered sugar
  • 3 tbs. lemon juice

For decoration: melted chocolate

Preparation:

First make the muffins. Whip the soft butter along with the sugar, add the whole eggs and cocoa powder, and then gradually add the other ingredients. Pour the mixture into paper cups and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes. To make the meringues, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt and gradually add the sugar and the vanilla flavoring. Using a pastry bag, press small meringues onto the baking tray and bake them dry at 150 degrees for 30 minutes. Decorate the cooled muffins with the cream made from butter, sugar and lemon juice in the shape of a star as shown in the picture, saving a small portion for the piping. The chicks can come on top of the cream, and you make the eyes with a chocolate dipped loop stick first, and then make beaks with the remaining cream. This dessert will be a cheerful addition to the festive table.
