Happy 10th birthday, THANKS, Hankook!

We shot a video in the Dunaújváros arboretum

Even in the life of the factory in Rácalmás, the ten years of “THANKS, Hankook!”, the Employee Volunteer Program, is a long timespan. And, what a 10 years it has been! On the occasion of the anniversary, we made a short film at the location of this year’s biggest project, the Arboretum, on Baracsi Road, in Dunaújváros, but before we report on the events of the filming day, let’s take a short trip back in time!

Since the start of the “THANKS, Hankook!, the purpose has remained unchanged: to motivate our colleagues to get involved in community activities and to serve the local communities through volunteering. To this end, each year you have had the opportunity to apply for funding to improve institutions and community spaces in the communities of settlements served by the company bus routes. You have contributed with your work and Hankook with its financial support to the realization of the winning projects, which in ten years have resulted in 300 projects, nearly 1,000 volunteer colleagues, more than 24,000 hours of work and almost HUF 130 million in support value. In recent years, thanks to your selfless help, many kindergartens, schools, nurseries and community spaces have been renovated, and this year will be no different; In 2022, the Bóbita Day Nursery in Dunaújváros, the Liszt Ferenc Garden Nursery and the Móricz Zsigmond Primary School will each get a new playground, a new wooden house or a new classroom, while the Mosolykert Kindergarten in Kisapostag will get a new sprinkler system; Perkáta will get a new playground and the Jankovich Miklós Primary School in Rácalmás will be renewed.

We wanted to make this 10th year of the program really memorable, which is why we started this large-scale project with the Arboretum’s director, Csaba Orosz. Csaba is linked to Hankook by a number of joint initiatives, so it was no question that he would play an important role in the filming alongside our volunteers. In the short film, he explained that the last time the Arboretum on Baracsi Road was renovated was more than 10 years ago, so they were very happy about this opportunity. With the help of volunteers, firefighters and young people from the community service, we have started to create a community space that can host family days and birthdays in a pleasant atmosphere, and even a unique barefoot park. Work on the site continued apace during filming, and alongside with landscaping and fencing work, the construction of a bunny run inside the petting zoo has been also started. The popular TikTok influencer duo Vivi and Norbi also took part in the beautification of the Arboretum by painting, weeding and litter picking, and, while they were there, they also made videos of their work, which you can watch on their channel.

The aim of the program, in future too, remains exactly what it is called: “Community Action for Betterment”. Thank you for your unwavering support in this mission.
