Since 2006, Zsuzsanna Kárászi-Tóth has been a member of Hankook; and, this year she celebrated her 15th anniversary with the company. She admits that she really loves her job, because as a human resources assistant she does what she really enjoys: dealing with people. To get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Zsuzsanna chose an extreme sport that is all about relaxation; and, after leaving parachuting behind, she opted for scuba diving.
When we dive underwater, it’s quiet, the phone doesn’t ring, no one speaks to us, we just enjoy the world below the surface.
More than a decade ago, you already appeared in the Hankook Quarter as a member of the national skydiving team. Where did the idea of switching to diving come from?
With skydiving, I felt I had done enough jumping and achieved everything I wanted to. So the idea of a change came up. As a little girl, I used to watch Cousteau films with my dad and I fell in love with the big blue. And later, under the influence of a colleague who was also into this form of exercise, I took the plunge and enrolled in the first scuba diving course of my life. It’s been 13 years since then, and I’ve been doing this physically demanding but relaxing sport as a hobby, and now have almost 600 dives and a Master Diver certification.
Where and how often do you dive?
I love the waters at home and abroad, which my husband and I explore together, sometimes in a team, sometimes just the two of us. Once or twice a year, we take longer trips to the Red Sea, the Adriatic or to a more distant country. Usually we dive once a month from spring to autumn in one of the nearer waters, and then when the frost comes we dive under ice. I have also had the opportunity to splash around in mine lakes, seas, oceans and caves.
What was the deepest point that you have dived?
My deepest point was 50 meters, when I ventured down this far to discover a shipwreck in good condition. Usually the limit is 40 meters and the time spent down is 50-60 minutes. When we dive, we have the help of a so-called dive computer, which gives us detailed assistance.
Can you tell us about your underwater experiences?
During my dives I have had the pleasure of seeing several shipwrecks. Among others, I have seen Jacques Cousteau’s underwater structure, where people lived and worked for 30 days without surfacing. The creatures of the aquatic world are amazing, my favorites are the whale shark and manta ray, but I also enjoy hand-feeding carp. We also dive at night, when the most exciting thing is that you can see aquatic animals that you can’t see during the day.
