The spring behind us was once again eventful: blood donations, medical examinations, office renovations, playful learning and awareness-raising developments added colour to Hankook’s everyday life. Here is a brief summary of everything we took part in and everything that was achieved.
Attracted thousands of visitors, this year’s Ambrózia Festival in Dunaújváros offered music, culinary adventures and community activities for three days between 13 and 16 June. Themed “Poseidon’s Dream”, the event was not only about fun, but also about environmental awareness and community responsibility. It is only natural that our company was one of the sponsors of the event.
Perhaps even the heavens knew about the special event organised on9 May, so they were kind to us and we were able to celebrate Hankook’s 84th birthday and the 18th birthday of the Rácalmás factory’s start of production in sunny weather. At the event, as is now tradition, in addition to celebrating the parent company and its Central European subsidiary, we also recognised the loyalty and diligence of our colleagues celebrating milestone anniversaries.
Ethical conduct is our shared responsibility. Our company is committed to ethical, transparent and sustainable operations, which are part of our ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles. In our daily work, we expect fair and responsible behaviour from employees – towards each other, our partners and the environment.

How do you like the country and Rácalmás, the surroundings of the factory?
The country, the capital and the countryside are all beautiful, as far as my time allows, I try to visit and experience as much as possible. I am not entirely new to Hungary, I have spent here more than one year around 2008 and visited several times since then.

In addition to our successful Tire Donation and Employee Volunteer Programs, our company has launched the “Hankook for Sport Program”. As a result, Hankook has supported volunteer programs with a total of HUF 20 million, and has contributed with around 2,000 premium tires to the successful operation of charitable organizations across the country, while smaller sports organizations in the region have received HUF 3 million to upgrade their equipment. As part of the Hankook Value Creation Program, we launched our Tire Donation Program in 2012 and it has been a great success ever since. This year’s program has again attracted a good number of applications from organizations seeking support, with winners already arriving to the factory to receive their gift tires.
In the first Hankook Quarter of this year, we reported for the first time about the ongoing renovations since the end of 2021; and the work has been in full swing ever since. More and more areas of the factory are undergoing minor and major ‘facelifts’; and there are still a number of projects planned for 2022.
Even in the life of the factory in Rácalmás, the ten years of “THANKS, Hankook!”, the Employee Volunteer Program, is a long timespan. And, what a 10 years it has been! As you may already know from the short film running on the TV screen, in the canteens, our holding company is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. But for us, the employees of the Rácalmás factory, this is a doubly important time: the foundation stones of our workplace were laid exactly 15 years ago.
January 2021 is not only the beginning of a new year for Hankook’s Hungarian plant, but also the welcoming of a new Managing Director, Mr. Hyung Yun Kim, to the management. The new Managing Director succeeds Mr. Hwang Seong Hak, who managed the company’s only European plant since 2017 and will take up a new role within the company group this year.

Preventing the spread of COVID-19
Probably many of you are unaware that the simultaneous spread of COVID-19 among workers has reached 20-25% in several multinational companies, which has also been reflected in production and sales results, all leading to wage cuts, or, ultimately, redundancies. In contrast, thanks to the effective measures, appropriate attitude and compliance of our colleagues, the proportion of infected people among our employees was a maximum of 0.5%, so the epidemic did not endanger the company’s operations or our livelihood at all.
On January 28, 2021, the Award Ceremony of the 14th Proactive Awards was broadcasted from the Technoplex Center in Korea. The online event, which was online this year due to the virus situation, was even more important than before for the staff of the Rácalmás factory because of the Hungarian aspect, as Sándor Péter Hegyaljai, the Unit Manager of the Technology Uniformity Unit, was among the winners of the competition, announced last year.
